Purpose: To ensure efficient and affective use of fire protection systems provided for by a building.
Scope: SOG for suspected fire in a building(s) with standpipes.
Enforcement: All officers are responsible to comply and ensure that those under their command are adequately trained and fully understand the procedures outlined in this guideline
Procedure:
The officer in charge of the first arriving engine company should:
Iniciate incident command, size up the fire, establish mutual aid and notify other responding companies of existing conditions.
Equipment needed will consist of:
· 200’ of 1 ¾ hose (nozzle and adapters)
· Spanner wrench
· Portable radio
1. It is the responsibility of the first arriving engine to attack the fire.
A. Fire attack will be initiated from the standpipe on the floor below the fire. The standpipe will normally be located in a protected stairwell. In some instances the standpipe will be located in the center of the hallway.
1. Detach house hose and connect the fire dept. hose.
2. The attack line will be advanced to the fire floor and remaining hose will be stretched up the stairs to remove kinks and allow for easy deployment.
3. A firefighter will remain at the control valve and open it at the nozzlemans command.
NOTE*** The standpipe will receiving 150psi at ground level. Any regulation of pressure will need to be done at the control valve.
SECOND DUE ENGINE:
1. It is the responsibility of the second due engine to supply water.
A. Secure a water source
B. Connect to the standpipe using two 2 ½ “ handlines. Deploy and charge one line at a time.
C. Supply at 150 psi.
2. Members not assisting in water supply are to report to the incident
commander for reassignment.
